NOTICE OF RACE AND SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

1      RULES

1.1    The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.

1.2      Racing will be conducted according to the US Sailing Prescription Appendix U.

1.3      Penguin and Comet Class yachts are eligible to compete.

2      NOTICES TO COMPETITORS

Notices to competitors will be posted at the Gibson Island Boat House.

3      CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

In accordance with RRS 90.2 (c), oral changes to the SIs may be announced on the water.

4      SIGNALS MADE ASHORE

4.1      Signals made ashore will be displayed at the Gibson Island Boathouse.

4.2      When flag AP is displayed ashore, “1 minute is replaced with “not less than 10 minutes” in the race signal AP.        

5      SCHEDULE OF RACES

5.1      Dates of racing: November 13, 2021                                                    

5.2      Number of races: As many as five races. One race shall constitute the regatta. 

5.3    The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first race is 1100.

6*   CLASS FLAGS

Class flags will be:

                        Comet                       Number 1         one

                        Penguin                     Number 2         two

7      RACING AREAS

Gibson Island Harbor or Eagle Cove

8      THE COURSE

8.1*  The starting line will be closed unless the course is shortened at the starting line. The course may consist of more than one lap.  The number of laps will be announced prior to the each warning signal.

9      MARKS

9.1*  Marks will be hip hops.

10    THE START

11.1    Races will be started by using RRS Appendix U - 3 minute sequence.

11.2      The starting line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on the starting mark at the starboard end and the course side of the port-end starting mark.

11.3    Boats whose warning signal has not been made shall avoid the starting area during the starting sequence for other races.

11.4    If any part of a boats hull, crew or equipment is on the course side of the starting line during  before her starting signal and she is identified, the race committee will attempt to hail her sail number. Failure to hail or to time it accurately will not be grounds for a request for redress. This changes RRS 62.1(a).

13   THE FINISH

13.1      The finishing line will be between staffs displaying orange flags on the finishing marks. This changes Race Signals.            

14   PENALTY SYSTEM

14.1    The Scoring Penalty, RRS 44.3, will apply.

14.2    RRS Appendix V will apply.

15   PROTESTS AND REQUESTS FOR REDRESS

15.1    Protest forms are available at the Gibson Island Boathouse.  Protests and requests for redress or reopening shall be delivered there within the appropriate time limit.

15.2    For each class, the protest time limit is 30 after the last boat has finished the last race of the day.

15.3    Notices will be posted no later than 30 minutes after the protest time limit to inform competitors of hearings in which they are parties or named as witnesses. Hearings will be held at the Gibson Island Boathouse.

15.4    If the race committee posts a list of boats scored OCS, ZFP, UFD or BFD on the official notice board before the protest time limit, a request for redress based on such a posted score shall be made no later than one hour after the protest time limit. This changes rule 62.2.

16   SCORING

16.1    The scoring system is the low point scoring system.

16.2    One race is required to be completed to constitute a series.

16.3    (a) When fewer than five races have been completed, a boats series score will be the total of her race scores.

            (b) When fiveraces have been completed, a boats series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.

17   SAFETY REGULATIONS

17.1    PFDs are required.

17.2    A boat that retires from a race shall notify the race committee as soon as possible. [DP]

 

 

18 ENTRY

       18.1 Penguin Entry Fee:  $10

19  SOCIAL INFORMATION Not A Part of the Notice of Race.

 

 Pot luck after racing. Bill Lawson will make chili and needs a head count. Bring a favorite dish, bread, dessert, or a beverage you would like to share.

Please RSVP to let us know if you are coming, and to ensure entry onto the Island and so we may make sure to have enough food for the after race social.
