DEATH NOTICE

David Gene Warhurst

On January 19, 2009. Beloved husband, father, brother, son-in-law, and brother-in-law. David was born in Alexandria, VA on December 25, 1955. He was the son of Charle and Gene and has one surviving brother, Nick of Ocala Fl. A business-owner, skilled craftsman, motorcyclist, and avid sailboat racer, David enjoyed traveling the world with his family. He and his wife hosted frequent gatherings in their home with family and friends. He was a creative and giving person, a talented cabinetmaker, enjoyed a wry sense of humor, and was generous at heart with his time and his skills.

David moved to Washington DC in 1980. In 1998 he married Colette Surla of Washington, DC. He was a crew member of a Cal 25 sailboat, raced out of Annapolis, MD. He was also the captain of his own racing dinghy and sailed with Penguin Fleet #1 out of Alexandria, VA. David previously was Manager of Visual Display for the Hecht Company, and later Project Manager for a cabinetry company. In 1998 he became co-owner with his wife of Door Detail, a fine door hardware installation firm.

He is survived by his wife, Colette Surla and son Dashiell Warhurst of Washington, DC, and daughter Rachel Warhurst of Bowie, MD. Family and friends will be received at the Warhurst/Surla home on Willow St NW in Washington, DC following the Saturday afternoon service to be held January 24 at 1:00 PM at The Seekers Church, 276 Carroll Street NW, Washington, DC.
