
Milton Richard Tennerstedt “Dick” formerly of Wilmette passed away
suddenly and peacefully on October 12, 2009. He was born on May
31, 1932 and grew up in Evanston. Dick graduated from Evanston
High School and then earned an engineering degree from
Northwestern University. He served in the U.S. Army as an
engineering specialist working on the Honest John Rocket system.
After his military release he worked as an engineer at Bodine
Electric where he met his wife of 49 years, Darlene. He earned his
MBA from the University of Chicago, began his own engineering
consulting business, and later opened Gear Systems, a gear
manufacturing company in Lake Villa. Dick was a lover of the
outdoors including over 60 years of competitive sailing, race car
driving, hiking and mountain climbing. He later developed a
passion for flying which he shared with his grandchildren. He was
the beloved husband of Darlene nee Kary; loving father of
Elizabeth (Jeff) Sedin; dear grandfather of Brian and Molly Sedin
and the loving brother of the late Jane (the late James) Bayer.
Memorial Service Saturday, 10:30 a.m. at Northminster Presbyterian
Church, 2515 Central Park Avenue, Evanston, IL 60201. In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be made to the Northminster Endowment Fund
or the Northminster Bell Choir Fund, both care of the church.
