Subject: Penguin class mourns the loss of Jeanne Flaherty
Hello everyone,
I am sorry to tell you that Jeanne Flaherty died yesterday afternoon after a long battle with cancer. Jeanne and her late husband Frank were the backbone of our fleet for many years and I consider myself a better person for knowing them. Many of you knew them both a lot longer than I did and you know first hand their boundless enthusiasm for our fleet.
The funeral arrangements have now been set. There will be a visitation this Friday, July 20 from 4 to 8 pm at the Donnellan funeral home which is located at 10045 Skokie Boulevard in Skokie. The funeral Mass will be on Saturday at 2:00 pm at the Faith, Hope, and Charity church which is at 191 Linden Street in Winnetka. There is also a luncheon scheduled for 3:30 at the Michigan Shore Club.
Due to a CSO conflict I will not be able to attend the funeral service, but I will be at the visitation and will play some music. I did see Jeanne last Friday and Sunday, and both times I played some music by Bach for her. I could tell that she was slipping, but her spirits were good. She was truly an amazing person, and she will be missed.
For further details you can visit the funeral home website:

I hope to see you on Friday evening.
Best regards,
Jon
Thanks Jon for sharing the sad news and your thoughts,
If the Penguin class ever had a "first lady" it would have been Jeanne.
Frank dearly loved the class and dedicated himself to not only building and nurturing the SLPF but also the International Penguin Class Being Association and Jeanne was his partner in that effort almost from the beginning.
I'm sure we all loved hearing stories from Frank and Jeanne about how they met, dated and sailed together during their courtship and how Frank strategically planned the wedding so that the honeymoon could include the international championships in New Orleans.
Whether it was on the water or onshore (giving way to John, Michael and Megan as crew at different points) Jeanne was omnipresent and always a part of our close-knit community. That didn't end when Frank passed away and I will always remember Jeanne for her kindness toward me over the past 45 years.
My best regards to all,
Mark
