Event Details
The TAYC fall frostbite was held on Halloween. The goal was to get in five good races and get young crew back ashore in time for trick-or-treating. At least PRO Bill Lane, assisted by David Cox, accomplished the latter. The wind was unstable, making the former more of a challenge.
After a shaky start, Jeff Cox with crew Henry Clark recorded three bullets to fend off Bill Lawson, sailing with his wife, Colette Preis. Although the Lawson team was more consistent with a second place average, they lost the tie breaker after the throw out race was accounted for. Patrick Brooks, sailing with his son Bennett, was extremely fast, and sailed to a solid third, including a win in the first race. Spencer McAllister, sailing with his son Jack, beat out Charlie and Cairn Krafft for fourth.
Read Beigel, sailing with Sarah Freund, missed the first race because of a broken tiller. After a quick sail in, they headed to Sandy McAllister’s house to pick up a spare, but spied Gray Shanahan’s boat parked in front of the Oxford Yacht Agency on the main street in Oxford and found a tiller there, so made it back in time for the second race.
The wind couldn’t seem to make up its mind, first trending to the east and then to the west about a northerly heading, making setting a square course a challenge. 5 races were completed on our stand-alone course sailed upstream of the Oxford-Bellevue Ferry. The Comets and 2.4mR’s had a separate course off the Oxford town park.
Awards were presented to the top 3 finishers, with Jeff Cox taking home the Atlantic Coast Championship perpetual trophy.
