Tred Avon Yacht Club hosted its Annual Regatta on August 8th and 9th, 2026. 7 Penguins registered for the event, although Mike Baugh ended up doing crash boat duty for the Opti green course. There were 49 green fleet Opti sailors (plus 65 Red, Blue, and White Opti sailors), so the club had their hands full — not to mention the Stars, Shields, 420s, Jr. ILCA (Laser), and Log Canoes making for quite a crowded waterfront, plus the plethora of RIBs manned by the junior coaches.
David Cox was PRO for the event and the Penguins were treated to our own, single fleet race course, as no adult ILCA boats showed up. David ran 6 two-lap windward-leeward courses on Saturday, and another 3 on Sunday. Race 6 on Saturday turned out to be one too many, as the wind quit towards the end and the sail in was excruciating. Sunday, race 3 was shortened to one lap and the fleet sailed in, only to have the breeze reappear a short time later — although no complaints about a 9 race event, and getting in ahead of the other fleets was actually a good thing.
Trophies were awarded at the club, as the ceremony has moved on from Harleigh, where it has been held for the last 25 years. They have a new waterfront estate venue lined up, but we’ll have to wait until next year to experience that.
